Back to School

The holidays are over and it's time to get back down to business, so . . . what better way than a field trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science!Alexander and Michaela digging for dinosaur bonesThe GangChemistry experiments:It was an educating, fun-filled day. We got to see "Leonardo" - the dinosaur that was found mummified in Montana. Houston is the only place this dinosaur has been on exhibit and only got it because NASA had a CT scan machine large enough to scan it and be able to penetrate through to take scans of its heart, stomach, liver. In one of the scans, you could even see what its last meal was (just some vegetation). It is only on exhibit for a few more days and then it is heading to Montana permanently at a museum being built for it there. Oh, and as it read on one of the plaques by the display, "There was evidence of some flooding..." Hmm, I wonder if it was some world-wide event? :)

Lovely weekend

Eric and I had a very nice weekend . . . alone. :) The kids went to spend the weekend with their grandparents in Beaumont, so Eric and I went and stayed Friday night at the Woodlands Resort. They had a fantastic deal called the Winter Wonderland package that included your room, a full gourmet breakfast, ice skating tickets, transportation to the rink, a round of golf on one of their champion courses, access to the steam room, sauna, etc. for $164 OR you could JUST reserve a room for $159. Duh, that's a no-brainer. We walked along the river walk (? Is that what it's called?) behind the Woodlands Pavilion Friday night and looked at the Christmas lights and then Saturday morning we went ice skating. Our room was very nice and we could step out onto a patio and there was a lake right there with ducks swimming around. It was very peaceful. After ice skating, we went and did a little shopping at the mall. It was such a nice weekend! It is good for everybody all around. Mom and Dad ...

Yay - I think this home school thing is working!

I had a couple of proud mom moments today. We were doing our geography lesson and I asked Michaela what body of water was north of Africa and below Italy and Greece. After about a minute, she said "Mediterranean!" I grabbed her and gave her a hug. Then, Alexander was able to tell me about the Black Sea, the Bosporus Strait, and the significance of the Red Sea in bible times. On his map worksheet, just the bare edge of Africa was showing at the bottom and he asked, "Can I go ahead and label this since I know this is Africa?" That's my boy!Later today, without me asking, Alexander unloaded and loaded the dishwasher and then started folding the laundry. I am so blessed. It was a good day.

Fun Weekend!

I was tired of the old post, so I thought I would talk about the weekend. Michaela had a close soccer game Saturday. It was 4-3. After her game, we came home to go to the Sacred Selections fundraiser. It was so much fun! They did a fantastic job! The auctions, silent and live, were a lot of fun. I bid on two items in the silent auction and got one. I got a hat and gloves for Michaela that were knitted by Terra Camp (Sanford). On the live auctions, we bid on a beautiful hand-stitched quilt. For a while, it was between her and us. At one point, someone behind me bid $140, and so I went up to $150, and then I hear, "Jen, that was me that bid $140!" Oh, it was my husband. I told him you've got to tell me these things! Well, anyway, she ended up with it. Hmm, maybe I can borrow it sometime. :)Another item that I bid on was a Dodge racing NASCAR jacket. I was going back and forth with this other guy, but it just got too much for me. He got it for $90. Like Mike said, my ...
