Let the New Year Proceed 01-03-09 07:31pm CST
You don't have to be gone long from pleonast to get behind. I have "zipped" through all the names lit up and see that the year has started for all of you, too!

LOL! Will someone put the breaks on?!

We had a great time at Jacob and Ellen's. It's such a blessing being in the home of your grown-up children and seeing them run their households, hear about their lives, laugh, relax and just have a good time together. We learned two new games and saw a good movie with Clearplay filtering in action. That's pretty cool.

Last night, we went to a very large restaurant on Lake Travis there in Austin. It's built with decks that overlook the lake and we requested a table outdoors. The highlight of the restaurant is to watch the sunset, and we got there just in time for that. After waiting for our table and getting some pictures, we were seated right on the edge of a deck that overlooked the lake. Guess who sat with his back to the lake? Yep, my Sweetie. But he was okay with that.

I always feel refreshed and goal oriented when a new year rolls around. I plan to try minute by minute to be what I need to be and not bite off too big of chunks that may only discourage me when I fail. I love reading everyone's blogs and seeing how you deal with life and gladness, trials and sadness. You all inspire me to do better. Thank you!

Carry on!

metzgermomWe watched 'The Bucket List' tonight with the Clear Play filter. It's even better than the TV guardian, and I'm thankful someone invented it, because they aren't able to make the TV Guardians anymore. Nice px.! :^)
mom2reeseI've eaten at that restaurant...what's the name??? I can't think of it. I loved it though.

I was in Austin on a work trip (pre-Reese) and Matt drove up there on his days off and surprised me. awwww...newlyweds!
brucknerdplsHey! Y'all went to the Oasis! Our favorite place in Austin.
derbydiGlad you had a good time. I think Jacob has your smile. :-)
mom2reeseOasis! Thanks...that would have bugged me because I couldn't think of the name.
tjmeadowsI love that restaurant! I am sorry that I didn't get to speak to you at Margaret Givens funeral last Thursday. At least, I got to look at the back of your head.
anitajAll of you look so happy in those pictures. What a great view.
littlebitcabGlad you made it home safely. Happy New Year!
lori_in_paI appreciate your comments on my blog -- especially about your flexible button. What a useful tool!
momsterWow, that restaurant really looks like a great one. The pictures are all wonderful...thanks so much for sharing.
squeakyLove the scenery at the lake. I could sit there all day, and evening. Glad you had such a good time.
mrs_rossheadI'm not going up to Spokane if it's bad weather! I think that we've covered all our bases. The only thing Dennis and I decided to do is book a motel room for them for Monday night. If they can get into Spokane, then we can pick them up on Tuesday! Anyway, Lord willing we'll have a good visit! But, I understand 'no' in case of bad weather!!!
jerimattHappy New Year. You guys make sure a nice looking family...tell Gene hello!
wildpeachemI'm glad you've had so much good time with your kids and their wonderful spouses. I hope you build many more happy memories in 2009.
spicegirl255And you are a breath of fresh air also. Thank you, my friend.
Gods_Country_GirlGlad ya had a wonderful & a safe trip.. :-)
mommapowulamy dad told me about children's songbook. I am very excited and look forward to its release.
momsterLOL...thanks Aleta...maybe that is my problem...I need to move to Texas...LOL
crysiThat is so pretty. Good points too, we need to take small bites so we're not disappointed when we can't accomplish what we wanted to.
mamapHow fun! That sounds like something Greg would have done so that we could all enjoy the view...How sweet of your hubby to sit with his back to the sunset! So glad you got to have such fun times to start the new year!

Just a tip...most of the new digital cameras have a setting called "Backlit" (on the Casio Exilim, it's one of the "Best Shot" settings...I'm not familiar with others specifically but I know they are similar). This setting is great for taking pics in front of a sunset. You get the people but you also get the sunset. It's a wonderful little tool...FWIW..
Much love to you...
crackerjackthanks that helped a lot
memersGlad you had such a great time with the kids.
jerzgirlYes -- it is my 25th year reunion. I want to purchase at least one of the songbooks. Thanks for the heads up!
marmaladeYou've got to be kidding!! We were at the Oasis the very night before you were for Barry's surprise birthday party! I sure wish y'all had come one night earlier :) THAT would have been a happy coincidence!
marmaladeAleta, once you posted some very good suggestions to help people know how to interact and help others who have experienced the loss of a loved one. I'd love to see that again, if you still have it.

Happy New Year, Y'all! 01-01-09 12:32am CST
Tonight in class, my little 5 year olds were all a-buzz with the thrilling anticipation of going home after Bible Study and eating *junk food* and staying up until after midnight.

I thought I'd never get them to quiet down. I told them the door shuts in 2 minutes and I wanted them to "put their parties outside the door." They were cute as they mimicked taking the words out of their mouths and tossing them out the door.

Gene and I came home to a quiet house with no plans for parties or junk food. Around 10:30, he scrounged up some old candy bars left over from Thanksgiving company and we splurged a little on those. Aren't we pathetic? LOL!

But the fun begins tomorrow when we leave for Austin to go see Jacob and Ellen. Yay!

"Oh, Master let me walk with Thee" as I travel this path of new opportunities. May I bring glory to God, love to my neighbors, and growth in myself.

I love you all!

Happy New Year, Everyone!

stevenswifeHappy New Year!
mom2reeseHappy 2009!
metzgermomThank you for the encouragement you have been to me through reading your blogs since 'reconnecting' on Pleonast! :^)
spicegirl255Have a safe and wonderful trip!
chickadeeI am a bit curious about your "path of new opportunities". Hav e a sfe, wonderful trip and a wonderful new year.
anneHappy New Year! Love you!
francesYou have a wonderful way of looking to life's bright side, and I hope 2009 brings you MANY Happy Days!
didowLast night was my last night with the 5/6 year olds. Sunday I start the next age group up. Their teacher told them last night I was going to be their teacher Sunday. They all seemed pleased, except one little boy. His cousins had been in my classes before. He said, "Now we'll have to do memory work." If he only knew how much I have planned for him. :)
squeakyYou said it all. Love to both of you and a prosperous new year for the Lord.
rockymtnsloverI wasn't feeling well last night so no party for us either. In fact, in bed by 11:15! lol!
alp1926Happy New Year!!
mrs_rossheadHave a wonderful trip! A great way to start the new year! :)
towelheadYou and Mr. Gene are so cute. :)
mamapAleta, I hope 2009 is absolutely wonderful for you!
wildpeachemYou had a much more exciting NY eve than we did--just dropping from exhaustion after a 12 hour drive, only to lie awake listening to country fireworks for hours.
It was lovely to see you yesterday, even though the occasion was sad.
alp1926I have much putting away I need to convince myself to do today and tomorrow, but next week I will hit the gym. Mark got me a new exercise outfit for Christmas. I need to go try that on.
Gods_Country_GirlI am glad you like the scrapbooking pages.. I hope I will be able to get more photos soon, so I can keep it up.. ;-)
ginasitterHappy New Year! Yes, we are excited about our new grandbaby! I know how you feel about the Barget's moving! When they left here in 2005 I was so sad!
crysiHappy New Year!
drtundrhrnlsHappy New Year to you too! Glad you got and liked the picture so much!
didowQuestion: You once said you had your classes memorize Psalms. I have the 2nd-4th graders this year. I was wanting them to memorize poetry (about 2 a quarter). I have listed Psalm 1, 23 and 100 -- also part of 19. Are there some other you would recommend for that age? I also plan on them memorizing the last part of Ecc 12 and all or some of Ecc 3 (A time for...). Any suggestions would be great.
didowI really like teaching all the time. It helps me maintain continuity. I've got Psalm 23 schedules for the firs 6 weeks. We can take a little more time if we need it though. I didn't do much memory work with my 5/6 year olds. That was more my laziness than that they couldn't do it. They did memorize the Judges using Glenda's song though.
mecHave a safe trip and Happy New Year to you and Gene

"STOP IT!" I say, "STOP IT!" 12-28-08 04:52pm CST
This morning before Bible class, Gene came and told me he heard that one of my little students was in a car accident yesterday with her mother. The two of them were in their van, mom took her eyes off the road for just a second and then, looking up, found herself in a ditch headed for a culvert. The swerving to miss it caused them to become airborne, and then flip.

They ended up with quite a bit of bruising, and Julia received several cuts on her arm from the broken glass. But, thanks be to our caring Father, they are okay.

When Gene got up to preach this morning, he added to the announcements that one of our families was delayed in arrival due to a small incident on the road on the way to services. Their son was sitting next to me and looked at me, rubbing his knee (not sure if he meant his or his dad's).

Oh, and did I mention that one of our members went out to California the first of December to spend several weeks, and once he got out there was in car accident? He's been in the hospital for a couple of weeks and just got home Thursday night.

Okay, that's 3!

"STOP IT! I say, "STOP IT!"

split_rockEnough already! Hope you're continuing to feel better.
linda_gLet's hope 3 is the end of it.
video_nanaYes, they plan to move - Terry had thought to retire in mid-December, but they want him to stay to finish something he's working on. He's hoping to retire by mid to late January, but their plans are up in the air until he retires. Ann said they plan to move here though.
mrs_rossheadOh my! We will keep all those mentioned in our prayers.
dshIt was our singing too! I made it through the first couple pretty well, but then after that I could tell I was going to go into a coughing fit if I kept it up. I would try to sing a verse per song or part of a verse.

I think it has been two or three times over the years that I've been going through "the cough" and what would Steve happen to mention in his sermon? Singing! It has been such a coincidence that he would do that and then during the invitation song if I opened my mouth to sing, I would have to leave the auditorium for coughing. Oh well, at least everyone knows I sing when I can. :)
video_nanaThanks for letting me know about Sherri's birthday - we'll plan to sing to her on Wednesday night at the party!
mamapOh, wow, Aleta...scary, scary times...So glad all are well...

Much sadness right now...such a reminder of our rich blessings...

Much love to you!
jerimattSure hope everyone is recovering from all the accidents...man. I did finally get the pics up on the post and will definately need to play with the settings on the camera. It should be a lot of fun.
ilovepondsI'm so far behind on pleo, I didn't know you had been sick! I'm glad you are better, and that's enough of accidents to people you know and love.
dshI didn't know at all what I was doing trying to put a video on my blog. Did you click on the gray "link text" below the picture? I can see it and it seems to be working for others. If it doesn't work, you can go to: discoverybaygames.com and click "About Us" and under that "Recent News" and it's the first link "View video (Quicktime). Just look next to Elmo and Steve's right behind waving! :)
rockinrobinThey will be living in Wilmington, NC.
ticketshope you had a merry xmas! (can i plz have your address??)
crysiI lived here 28 years our of 31 and that's the first time I went at night...so awesome!
mom2reesewow! it usually happens in threes so....
tree_huggerhaha thanx!!
blesuThat doesn't surprise me. More than likely it is something that my Grandpa is not doing correctly. He is pretty fuzzy on all this new technology. However, it might be a rigid security setup and I will ask my Hubby this evening and see if he can't talk him through it.
wiseHow scary. I'm glad all were alright.
kaytWhat is RJ's web site? I would love to have it. I have some old cassette tapes of his quartet group singing. They are getting old and crackly . I would like to get them on a CD, but don't know where to order them. Sorry to hear you have been sick.
mr_and_mrs_berryWow - what a bunch of accidents - 3 is enough for sure. Luke S remembered me on Sunday. I wasn't sure why he looked familiar till I saw his mom! I'm glad they found a place.
drtundrhrnlsI am so far behind in my reading and writing on here. My group just left yesterday. I had to drive Carry back up to KC to fly back. Amber and Derek were going on down to Mississippi for the Huggins Holidays. Carry got to fly home early on the 22nd. I drove up to KC to get her and a little surprise we had for Steve. Cameron. Amber let her fly with Carry since she was free. That saved her riding in the car for 12 hours. Steve was surprised. Amber and Derek got here on the 25th. I'm sorry you have been sick!
memersIt does seem to come in 3's. Happy New Year to you and yours.
mrs_rossheadHappy New Year to you and Gene!

Thank you... 12-27-08 10:34pm CST
You all are the best! I think my fever finally broke. At least I'm not sweating and chilling like I have been since Thursday night.

In other news, Gene made it home safely, for all family members who knew he was traveling to East Texas. He ran into quite a bit of rain from Nacogdoches south. A long time friend passed away; someone he knew in Pineland when he preached there, and Gene did the funeral. I stayed here. I don't think I've ever been home alone while he has been gone. Usually, I am the one gone - like to Mom's when she lived in Deer Park - or when the kids have moved across country.

I'm just glad he was gone while I was sneezing my head off!

Have a nice Lord's Day!
split_rockGlad you're feeling better and that Gene made it home safely. Hope the fever doesn't come back. Take it easy and rest, though; the bugs these days seem to revisit just when you think they've run their course.
mrs_rossheadGood to hear that you're on the mend, and that Gene is home safe. Continue to rest well, that is good advice!
momsterGlad he is home safe and that you are starting to feel better....:)
scrappyhappymamaGlad you're feeling better & Mr Gene made it home safely!
scrappyhappymamaYes, it's another kidlet on the way!
sureshot79Glad you are feeling better!
didowHome alone. The words sound so nice to me. I know one day I'll have plenty of chances for that but right now the moments alone are golden.
chickadeeI too am glad you are feeeling better.
tracysGlad to hear you are better!
dshI'm so glad you're better!
derbydiGlad your honey is home safely! Hope you're 100% soon.
squeakyThat stuff you had is lethal so it probably ws better for him to be gone. Glad he is back home safe and sound. Also glad your better.
memersGlad Gene made it home safe and that you are feeling better. I think I am coming down with something.
spicegirl255Keep improving!
nanajammaGlad to hear your doing better and Gene is back in the fold!!

The Day after Christmas... 12-26-08 10:57am CST
Twas the day after Christmas, And in our warm house

I’m feeling bad, (No, it wasn’t the mouse).

It might be the fact that it’s finally my turn

To ache and feel yucky and with fever burn;

For others around me have succumbed to this ick,

And inevitably I, too, would find myself sick.

I’ve pitied and petted my loved ones who fell,

And I’ve knocked on wood; Yes, my knuckles do tell!

So in our warm house I will stay and lay low

Please tell me you’re well; that's all I need to know…

mom2reese:( but i did enjoy your poem!
littlebitcabLove the poem, sorry your sick!
squeakyWhat a bummer. I think I'm fighting getting sick. John is still sick and Mary is getting sick so hopefully we won't get it but John said it's horrible. Hugs (( )) and love to make you feel better.
chickadeethat is definitely what I have found :)
brucknerdplsSister Aleta, you are the most creative person I know. You find a way to make even a cold seem festive! :-)
friedajWe are doing well. Mark is recovering nicely from back surgery, David fell and seperated his shoulder, Mom has a cold but is on the mending part of it and I am nestled in a warm home.
What more could a girl ask for?
rockinrobinI was on antibiotic for a sinus infection over a week ago but this stuff comes back. I have the scratchy, congested version in your throat also with the hoarseness coming and going. I hope you feel better soon. I too was congratulating myself that I had not caught it.HMNNNNNN.....
friedajSure hope you are out and running again soon. You may have "overdone" the pre-holiday.
brucknerdplsGreetings from my iPod!!! Look at me, mr technogeek! Gene must be exceedingly proud.
dhudginsI hope you feel better soon!
dhudginsThanks! he is a lucky and very blessed boy, one of those who learns things easily and doesn't have to study hard. Imagine what his GPA could be if he studied!
spicegirl255Ahhh...I am so sorry that you are sick!!! Feel better very soon! At least you made it thru Christmas...and maybe you will be much better by the New Years beginning. Don't forget to eat black eyed peas on New Years Eve!
derbydiWe came home today from my sister's. She and my aunt woke up ill today. We are knocking on wood, too!
Hope you're well again soon, and that Gene doesn't get it!
tracysYou are so creative - even when sick! Hope you are feeling better today.
bluebonnetmomThank you!
mrs_rossheadI hope that you're feeling better this Saturday morning! :)
spicegirl255Personally, I do not care for those peas!
mecJust reading about you being ill I started having a sneezing attack. Hope you are feeling better. I better move on so I can stop sneeeeeeezing!!!!!
nick_katieI would just like to announce that I rubbed (generic) Vicks Vapor Rub on my feet last night before bed and it worked like a charm! I think I only coughed twice after I put it on and they weren't even deep coughs. Nothing like the coughing fits I've been having!!! I'm sorry you're sick :(
sdmfThank you!! Yeah she is and it seems the past two days her development skills have accelerated and it's amazing to see!!

We will see y'all tomorrow morning! Yay!!
johnandleah^^^we do the "vicks feet treatment" on Owen when he has croup, and I think it helps, too! We put socks on him afterward to keep it on. Hope you feel better!
ginasitterHope you are feeling better!
janiceHow are you doing? Better I hope. Do you need anything? Love you.
anneAchooo!
