My New Years Resolution... 01-01-09 04:25pm CST
To get dressed, fix my hair, and put on make-up BEFORE checking Pleonast.

But don't hold me to it.

He Will See Me Safely Home... 12-31-08 05:39am CST
For some time now I have been working on a hymn that would reflect some of the trials we face as our bodies age and our circumstances in life change. Some of these observations are from my own life, while others come from those I love who are facing these changes with both courage and a surprising amount of humor. Growing older has its frustrations and discouragements, feelings of isolation and loss. Eccl 12:1 speaks of the "difficult days" coming (NKJ). But before those words there is this admonition: "Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth..." Having our faith firmly and early set with the One who has created not only ourselves but all the seasons of our lives, who knows what we deal with and offers us something better, can help us to accept the certain changes with greater gracefulness, greater patience, and greater appreciation for what we have had and what is in store if we believe His word.

He Will See Me Safely Home
by Anne Stevens

1. When I fail to hear the voices blending,
And my arms grow weak that once were strong,
When I no more see the rainbow bending,
And the night be lonely and be long,

(Chorus)
Let me not begrudge my fading vision,
Let me not my youth now gone bemoan.
'Tis the Savior knows the path before me.
Sure and He will see me safely home.

2. When my friends no longer gather 'round me,
And the one I love has passed away,
When those things once simple may confound me,
And my feet may stumble on their way,

3. 'Tho I long to lose this earthly burden,
Shed this tent that ties me here below,
There is One whose help for me is certain,
And my troubles Jesus ever knows.

4. Let my hands find work of God's own making.
Let my faith in Him be fuller grown,
For each feeble step that I am taking
Takes me one step closer to my Home.

alp1926Good words!
nicoleAll of your hymns are so beautiful. You have a way of choosing words that bring pictures to mind and/or make you feel strong emotions. You have such talent. Thank you for using it to help us praise our Lord and edify one another.
aletaThis still makes me cry, but in a comforting way. :)
drtundrhrnlsThis hymn certainly takes ones mind off of the pains of growing older and reminds us to look forward to heaven! Thank you for another inspiring hymn!
skidgetThat is a wonderful hymn. :-)
hartwebbYes, I would like to have whatever "Mark Your Bible" material you have completed. As I said, a New Years project. Wow! I'm impressed with your hunting stats; I will tell my husband. He wishes I'd go with him. He just bought the boys a shotgun. They are going on a Youth hunt in February (duck hunting). Hey, do you have any exceptional venison recipes you'd be willing to share? I like it best fried, so far. I'm not really very good at cooking different cuts, though I find ground venison to be good as a pizza topping or in chili. My dad did show me a way to fix tenderloin in the oven with a drizzle of maple syrup, etc., that's really good. I don't know if you remember, but I went to FC with Sherelyn and Mark. Time certainly flies, huh? Are you the one who does the women's classes with Renita Harber? She worships with me in Nashville. Well, take care and go with God.
hartwebbThat is absolutely beautiful (the song that is); I just now read it after I had made the above entry. At 51, your words are already apropos! Thanks.
diannesLOL, yeah I will drive right over. I found a party, after-all. Yea!
zanneWe're calling it the "year of the house"!! Surely!! ;-0
janiceHappy New Year!!!!
staciayou did a great job!! it is so true we hear of this all around us and it is our faith that will get us through!
waxtadpoleI look forward to the day when Luke leads our congregation in that song.
squeakyWe'll be watching to see if you kept your resolution. :-)
jimandtyraHe's good. 87 and still going to work every day (refinishing furniture). Two new knees recently, so he gets around really well.

G'luck on that resolution. I know I'd break that one quick.
hartwebbActually, Renita may have presented lessons with Aleta (she's your sister-in-law, right!?) Sometimes I get my Pleo facts confused. ;-) [x]
carolHi Anne. I haven't been on Pleonast for a while so you might not remember me. I think I remember (talk about aging) though that you had a woman's Bible class series and I wonder where I can look at it again.
carolIt is okay, Anne. I found the downloaded CD. God bless you in your work for the kingdom!
carolAnne, I cannot open the CD. Do you have a place to view the contents?

I don't know what all the fuss was about... 12-25-08 05:03pm CST
concerning housing when Hurricane Ike hit in September. Texas has it. You just have to look for it.

Photobucket

We saw this on the way home from deer hunting, and I couldn't resist taking a picture. There was another "slightly used" house next to it, but I figured one was enough.
squeakyThats funny & sad.

francesOnce that was someone's home--how sad.
sharbyheartAww...hmmm, we do have birds nesting in our damaged portion, but we *are* living here! We have a much better home awaiting us in eternity :-)

grannyI too saw the humourous and the sad while near Houston. And so very thankful to learn fewer lives were lost than we had feared.
waxtadpoleGee...that kinda reminds me of my yard. Should I be embarrassed?

Some of you asked... 09-18-08 01:40pm CST
for the website for the Mark Your Bible material.

You can find it by going here.

I have rearranged the topics, deleted some and added others, and we'll be adding more as the ladies suggest subjects they feel weak on and want more study. We had our first morning class today, with three others and myself. It went great! I'm looking forward to this evening's session, when we'll have more. The morning class is our "stop watch," to know exactly how much material to cover in the evening, so both sessions will be at the same spot. That way if someone comes in the morning one week and the evening the next week, they won't miss out on anything. I'm shooting for one hour only per class, but this morning we started three minutes late...you know how women are when they get together.

Just for your information, the topics I've chosen so far are:

1. The Nature of Man
2. Eternal plan
3. Bible Authority
4. The Bible Can Be Understood
5. What It Means to Believe On Jesus
6. Repentance
7. Confession
8. The Design of Water Baptism
9. Baptism Is Immersion Only
10. The Salvation of a Good Moral Man (Cornelius)
11. After Death chart
12. Possible for a Child of God to Sin and Be Lost
13. The Old Covenant Done Away in Christ
14. The name Christian
15. Instrumental Music/Singing
16. The Kingdom of Christ
17. Predestination

Aleta is also teaching this material in a ladies' class in Rosenberg, so if you're really interested, you might contact her to see if she has suggestions. She mentioned they are not underlining passages, but we are. I'm having the ladies do their underlining and referencing together the first two classes, but later they'll do that part at home and we'll just spend our class time in study. Or at least, that's the plan.

Thank you for all the encouraging comments below about this class. And for those of you who wish you were here, so do I!
