Home again, home again jiggity jig. 12-29-08 02:22pm CST
We're home from our trip a day early. Nothing really went as planned. That wasn't always a bad thing, though. For example, we didn't quite make it to Cullman as planned for Wednesday evening Bible study and worship so we stopped in Hartselle where we saw the Old Man, Deanne, and Cindy. That was the first time I'd ever met quincysmom and it had been a long time since I had seen the others. So it was a delight.

Our planned stay at my parents' house was cut short by my son's severe allergic reaction to my sister's cats. After a day in the house, gradually getting worse and worse, he suddenly couldn't breathe. We rushed him outside and gave him some meds and for a few minutes I was thinking we'd have to go to the ER - not a nice way to spend Christmas night. But he got a little better. We had to spend the rest of our nights in a motel - boo for the hit on the budget. But the motel was nice and we made the best of it.

Then our planned trip to Meridian, MS to see my husband's family got canceled due to a health problem with his sister. That was a disappointment. If you have a moment to send up a prayer for her, her name is Shawnda. We haven't seen my husband's family in more than 2 years and they've never met our newest addition. I don't know when we'll be able to try to get together with them again. Mostly I hope her health scare turns out to be a false alarm.

We worshiped in Paducah, KY on Sunday morning and managed to get home for worship Sunday evening. It was a relief to get home and we were happy to see what my son calls "our people." We went out for ice cream with some friends after services and everything is returning to normal now.

I have to go unpack and do some laundry.

The weather forecast said we would have a high of 55 today. It still says that - even though the current temperature is 65. We just got back from walking to the grocery store. In December. Nice!
this_old_manI was great seeing ya'll too! I'll mention Shawnda in my prayers.

My big brave boy 12-18-08 11:52am CST
My son was sick yesterday. He vomited twice in the morning and didn't even tell me. In fact, he was trying to conceal the fact that he was sick because he didn't want to miss Bible class. Well, eventually he came clean and told me but by then I knew something was wrong - fever, chalky white face. He said he was "feeling just a little bit bad but I'm better now." I'm guessing he mightn't keep that bravery in the face of illness when he's a grown man. Just a guess. Based on experience with men. You women know what I'm talking about.
adam_mHEY HEY. Be nice.
this_old_manHey! Once a woman's mothering skills are activated it is the only way we men can get any TLC, otherwise we get "Oh your not that sick, here take the garbage out".:P
maxsoraSounds to me like your son inherited the Holloway stoicism in the face of illness. I remember someone with pneumonia who continued working 1 or 2 jobs while coughing all night long :). I don't know about keeping it as an adult though. I hope he is feeling better.
tgatzajrNow that's a dedicated little trooper!

I remember one time a lady co-worker was telling me about her husband being sick. I told her "If you haven't figured it out just yet, when grown men get sick, they turn into little boys". :-)
twoI must be weird. In my house, my wife wants lots of attention when she's sick. On the 1 day every 5 years I'm actually sick enough to stay in bed, I want to be left alone! I always figured women bugged their husbands to death when they're trying to sleep so they could tell everyone how much attention they had to give them.
twoI used to try to leave her alone when she was sick (because that's how I want to be treated), but I finally figured out that the "message" she was sending by continually coming in when I was sick was that that's how she wanted to be treated.
tgatzajrThe Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.....Had to put mom in the hospital this week. Three hours sleep Sunday Night and four and a half hours last night....
quincysmomIt was nice to meet you last night in Hartselle. This is Cindy.

deanneMerry Christmas! I was so good to see you last night!! When I told Daniel that I saw you, he was very jealous and wished he had gotten someone to teach his class for him!!
tgatzajrMerry Christmas! I hope you guys have a very happy holiday!
this_old_manI am glad I got to meet your new baby boy last night! I am amazed how big M. has gotten. And you and S. haven't aged a day!

Merry Mistletoe Time 12-06-08 09:02pm CST
Tonight the four of us went out and rode around (well, one of us drove) our neighborhood and looked at Xmas lights. Our neighborhood is VERY large so it took quite a while and we still didn't see every area. It's quite a festive neighborhood, although some of the houses looked like the Xmas Fairy threw up on them. (I think we saw her passed out in one of the front yards.) My husband said at those houses the wife sent her poor non-artistic husband out with a bunch of lights and told him to decorate. He seemed to personally relate to that situation :-\ .

Anyway, we had a delightful time looking at decorations and listening to Xmas music on the radio. Then we went to a restaurant and had dessert. My oldest son had candy cane cocoa - yum! The little one had a bit of whipped cream off his daddy's pie. It was a lovely, cozy, holiday night.

I hope other people had as much fun as us tonight.
this_old_manWe went to a party over at Daniel and Deanne's! We had a great time.
meremecandy cane cocoa - MMMMmmmmm Sounds like a fun time. :)
twoNeat! Last year our younger son and his girlfriend grabbed us to go look at lights. I forsee many festive holidays ahead.
meremeI thought so too (what you said on my blog) - neat quote, eh?
meremegood quote!
this_old_manI think I heard your dad tell that one one time, it's his kind of joke! :)
maxsoraSound like a great time. I am personally a little partial to the houses that look "overdone". My personal preference is one miniscule step short of trashy because Christmas is about overdone and fun! Case in point, I really liked the house next to the Suggs in Auburn who chose to rebel against the Auburn city suggestions on Christmas decorations.
this_old_manI just had supper with your folks! They were down here for a Dr. appointment.
this_old_manYou bet! Pleo is my only social life. :)
this_old_manI'll take in two travel mugs of coffee and that should get me by.:)
heythatsgreatI really love the ones decorated with originality. So many decorations for the yard are "ready made" now. I like the ones that the folks did themselves. It makes you feel like its a little more personal, and since it is something you can enjoy (whether together or severally), it gives you greater appreciation for them (even when you don't know anything else about them). We need to go riding!
meremethank you! have a blessed and "still" season! :)
tgatzajrYep....The elf dancing will have to wait! :-)
(That made me chuckle this morning!)

Snow flurry 11-14-08 02:41pm CST
Our weather forecast for tomorrow calls for flurry - singular. One flurry. Most likely I'll miss that, huh?
*****************
Update: I saw it. It was more than one. And it wasn't really flurrying, more like pelting my head - suspiciously like sleet. Nevertheless, 'twas the first frozen precipitation of the season. Falalalala lalalala.
this_old_man"Left of west and coming in a hurry with the flurry breathing down your neck." :)
mereme:D !! 6 year old has taste in musicals. Good luck with that flurry. :)
curlie;)
tgatzajrNo flurries here just cold wind! I'll be in Houston Saturday nite freezing in a football stadium!
Gas is $1.85!
twoDoes everyone get their own flurry? I'd hate to have to share just one with among the whole town.
meremela la la la! We're getting windy rain here - have been all afternoon and evening. Supposed to get snow overnight I guess. Enjoy yours! :D
correction duly noted. :)
tgatzajrThe good old hymns can be! I stumbled across a gem this weekend and hope to be to start putting it to Lilypond. So be on the lookout for it! It's a Crosby / Doane hymn called City of Gold.
this_old_manJanet doesn't like it when I do!
tgatzajrHad a busy weekend, but I got see my both my girls! We went to Houston for a concert and then a ball game at the university where my youngest attends. Both my kids live there. Hardest part is having to leave them to come home. :-(
this_old_manJanet talked to your mom tonight, GOOD news all around! :)
tgatzajrHappy Turkey day! Be sure to make all those "men" in the house line up and do the dishes! Don't give 'em a chance to wiggle out of it! :-)
this_old_manMove South! It will thaw faster! :)
nacmacfeegleGlad to hear everything was OK. Also glad to hear someone else struggles with thawing a frozen Turkey on time. However since I am deep frying mine... WAY more important that be thawed. (putting a frozen bird in the hot oil means I won't have to worry with cancer anymore.... :)

Did I just see what I thought I saw?? 11-11-08 04:05pm CST
I just saw the sign out of the corner of my eye while I was driving. But it looked like "Unleaded $1.97"

!!!!!!!

I never thought I'd see that again in my lifetime.
this_old_manThank you for the recommendations! I will pursue them.
meremeI like that story you sent! What perspective keepers kids are. :)
maxsoraI had the same experience today - $1.99 at the Circle K in Memphis. MAde me want to buy gas NOW.
maxsoraMaybe Obama really will save our country. Within 2 weeks of election, gas prices drop below $2 a gallon. Just kidding. But I bet many will give him the credit.
twoI'm holding out for 99¢ gas. Okay, I can't really hold out, but it's $1.82 where I live.
this_old_manOh comments! Yeah that happens when you carry on several blog conversation at once. It's my only social life these days of bachelorhood. :)
