another year gone 01-02-09 02:44am CST
looking back is always interesting, but seldom do i take the time to meditate on the past. i usually think about the past in flashes; specific memories provoked by some familiar event or word. the resulting emotions vary from exuberance to disgust. tonight, however, is the fullness of time for me to reflect upon this past year.

i'm contemplating not going to sleep.

2008 brought questions early on. i can hardly find the words to describe that situation and how it mutated. it almost destroyed so much. it was very hard. although i was most certainly not alone, for a while i felt i was largely the only one visibly standing in opposition.

i have many people to thank for how that situation ended. adam, brad, adam, matt, troxel. thank you. you have each strengthened me in your own way. there are many people in my life worthy of mention, but these guys are top-notch.

moving on. i got to go back to hawaii in 2008. that was quite enjoyable, except the terrible sunburn i got. that was bad.

the best thing about 2008 (yes, i saved the best for last) was meeting fatima. how we met is a good story, but i'll save it for now. we've been together officially almost 9 months now, and i really, really love her. 2008 brought some particularly low lows, but we have found our relationship to be a source of strength. i can only see us getting stronger. how perfect :)

resolutions for 2009:
read 20 books, according to his rules (seen here).
cut back soft drink consumption to 48 ounces (4 cans) per week through june, and 24 ounces (2 cans) per week after that.
push-ups & sit-ups every morning, adding 1 more each week.
melissakaeI want to hear the Fatima story!!!! :-)
steroid_steveMy email is sjr23@pitt.edu
kailua~hi~
slave_of_jesus_jdbGood goals.
chooselovethose are good reading rules. i've taken up reading again, and so far it's going so well :)
kailuaYes, I think we cornered the market on Ocean Potion for your burn.

quickly, before i go to bed 12-30-08 10:34pm CST
i'm pretty sick of the way we've decided to take israel's side. all the time. they're a wimpy little nation flexing american muscle. they're too big for their britches. i'm not anti-semitic, i just think they're wrong. i don't know who's land it should be, and i don't really care. my question is, why does our government?
israel broke the peace treaty. hamas fires homemade rockets. and israel starts this shock and awe escalation that's completely uncalled for. and our government has the nerve to say "well hamas shouldn't have fired the rockets.." that's crap and they know it! any other middle eastern nation that acted as israel has would have been immediately condemned, but no not our baby israel.

i would like to see an end to our relationship with that nation.

in other news, be prepared for the next cycle of global cooling. don't expect it to be drastically colder immediately, of course. these things take time to produce the trends that get all the pop culture "scientists" scared. *gags*

</rant>
adampuallol i love it! i blame the evangelicals for saying it's America's job to take Israel's side. i blame the government more for actually listening to them.
viarostultegaI appreciate the ending rant bracket. It has taken a lot for me to not write a book ranting about these two topics. Finally someone else pointed to global cooling. I peronally applaud your rant.
adamandjessesdadWe weren't so blatantly "for" Israel until Carter was President. The guy in the cube next to me thinks that if we quit supporting Israel, God will destroy us. I wonder whether He's judging us because we're helping to keep them in the land he kicked them out of. There are a lot of premillennialists out there!
Regarding climate change, most of the current environmentalists will say that the cooling cycle was caused by particulate pollution, keeping the Earth's surface in the shade. The warming started when we cleaned that up, but kept up the CO2 production. In other words... you can't argue with them.
viarostultegaOh, I almost forgot to add: I know that Hillary Clinton, was the new nominee for Secretary of State will clean this Israel mess up. Woohoo Hillary. Hot stuff.
kailuaAway from all that stuff ~ did you get your good grades gift yet?
trxI blame the United Kingdom - they're the ones who partitioned the mandate.

The Zionist movement has been strong for over 150 years, with Ashkenazic Europeans (particularly in White Russia and the Ukraine) pressing strongly since long before the Russian revolution.

In addition, the premillennial interpretation of scripture almost drives to blind support of modern Israel. I continue to be bemused that far-right fundamentalist "Christians" and far-left fundamental "Jews" find common ground and common cause here....
maucknotYou really should quit beating around the bush. Come out and take a stand and tell us how you really feel! I really do like this part: "wimpy little nation flexing American muscle"...nice.
maucknotOur relationship with Israel stems from a biblical misconception about God's plans for Jerusalem/Israel, but we all should know HE IS DONE WITH THEM AS HIS CHOSEN PEOPLE!!!
sarahpetmore and more people are thinking like you. I don't feel that Israel is worth protecting.
juliewhoim happy that you said too big for their britches. see you this weekend!

viarostultegaCongrats!
adampualgood job! i never did that in college.
alexThat's great Chris!
kailuaAs Foghorn Leghorn would say, "Ah say, Ah say boy, now that's my boy! You are a Chicken Hawk!" 5 bucks for each A is on the way! Congratulations or as someone spray painted on the Georgia High Bridge Train Over Pass - Congraduations!
thecellardoorjood gob! you're the smartest mongeon in da fammmmm
maucknotSign of maturity. Keep it up. Every Red Sox fan could use a little more of that :).
spimmanawesome, and a merry Christmas to you!
steroid_steveI'd be interested in hearing your reasoning for why it would be acceptable to partake of the Lord's supper on any day of the week, or on Saturday. If you want, again not for the sake of debate but to get to the truth.
steroid_steveThat was not Nicole's problem, but rather something I directly stated that I admit should not have. She deleted that statement.
anothermattnice man. got your email. praying.
adamandjessesdadGood job!
daisyheadlaceyCongrats! My worst semester in college had the name of a famous rock band from the 80s? And appeared in that order on my grade display : )
daisyheadlaceydefinitely not my proudest moment, but hilarious nonetheless.
iheartshoesYEAH!
goastrider44awesome, congrats! I can honestly say that never happened to me, lol. Hey you in Houston?
trxI never heard of a rock band named CCCDF - oh, your worst semester - sorry.

smooth 12-15-08 07:35am CST
i gotta admit, for all the crap that he takes, and verbal blunders he makes, our president is a really smooth guy. i mean, he just kinda dodges these shoes; no big deal. lol i bet he coulda kicked that reporter's butt too.
america rocks

on a related note, i gotta wonder what could make the iraqis happy. saddam hussein? no, they beat his statue with shoes when they toppled it. their own democratic government? that's what we're giving them and they're mad, so i guess not that either. sectarian violence that would thwart any hope of development in the country? hmm...

71lespaulcustomIt kinda bothered me how long it seemed to take the Secret Service (or whatever security there was) to respond.
cmvermonti think i heard somebody say that he called them off mid-duck. i guess they should have already been there tho, if they're supposed to take bullets and stuff..
sarahpetyeah really, if they would take bullets, why are they afraid of a flying shoe?
viarostultegaWas it a steel-toed shoe? That is the real question.
adampualyeah they'll never be satisfied. and i'm sure the SS searches all those people for deadly weapons before they enter the room. probably little reason to rush because of a shoe.
kailuaI have recently been studying facial expression. I note saddness, disbelief and anger on our president's face. The Iraqi reporter involved is a shame to his profession. Bad form, very bad. Makes me think of Toby Keith's song ~ we'll put a boot up your gluteus maximus!
spimmanBush responded well saying something along the lines of, "Isn't it great that Iraq is a free enough country where people can have these opinions."

Saddam would have cut off the guys feet...at the very least.
hastingsI was watching a PBS program on the war....I have to admit that if people (not my own country men)were kicking my door down at 3 in the morning because I own a gun you better believe I would fight back. Not to say one is better than the other just put yourself in their shoes. (or throw one)
cmvermontreally? i noted a bit of bemusement
cmvermontyeah i thought that also. nobody had any guns or knives or anything.
anothermatti just checked and apparently the reason for the deletion of the Bresse wikipedia entry was "patent nonsense"--how funny is that?
maucknotI thought our President handled that very well ... and this guy is reacting against and throwing his shoes at a President who only has a few weeks left in office.
kailuaWaleed Ibrahim, Reuters - reported that Muntazer al-Zaidi (aka the screamin' shoe thrower) "was hit in the head with a rifle butt and had an arm broken." This information came from al-Zaidi's brother, who "declined to identify the source of the information and his comment could not be independently verified."
create_a_wayI agree with you! I would love to talk to you about it sometime.
thecellardoorYou are so right. I wish we could leave them alone so they couldn't blame us for anything; but then again they'd probably find something. Sigh. Anyway, thanks for the insight!! (and i did get you a tiny christmas present. be good and you will get more, booties).
tnerbydoomThey won't ever be happy. You can't force democracy on a people who want a theocracy.
joedurenHey dude this is Chris went to FC with you in 01......where is Rainbow, TX? We're in College Station
tgatzajrWhat makes the Iraqis happy is fighting each other. It's the "Hatfield and McCoys" thing.
If two parties among the Believers fall into a quarrel, make ye peace between them: but if one of them transgresses beyond bounds against the other, then fight ye (all) against the one that transgresses until it complies with the command of Allah; but if it complies, then make peace between them with justice, and be fair: for Allah loves those who are fair (and just). - Surah 49:9
In other words, if you got a serious problem with each other, just "duke it" out! Real spiritual wisdom huh?
holly_hIn the secure areas, yes. 'bout 150 guys and 3 girls...and we have 3 stalls. ;-)
lwLOL....Anna is Arlon's girlfriend. They have been dating for 2 months. Happy Holidays!
steroid_steveYes, I was defining secular as anything outside of the bible. There are many religious books that deal with the bible such as commentaries that may help you to understand a certain passage.
steroid_steveCould you possibly do me a favor. I do not remember what I said to Nicole, but she claimed that I was attacking her without understanding her position. First, I do not recall what I stated and sometimes I have a tendency to write things that may seem like I'm judging others, but it is far from the case. Sometimes I state things about someone's belief in a manner to spark discussion, but never to just attack. Maybe you could talk to her and ask her what I said because I find it highly disturbing, as this has never been my intention.
steroid_steveI would greatly appreciate this as you are aware that I've grown up with Nicole and never would I want to destroy a relationship so precious.

yoyomammmmm... mutton!
adamandjessesdadLooks wonderful!
adampualwonderful very wonderful!
kailuaSo that's where Mary's Little Lamb went!
kailuaWe got over a foot of snow yesterday. I am so happy that we did not get the sleet and freezing rain along with it. New Hampshire is a mess. Speaking of snowballs(previous post) remember when you shot that one and it went right into Clayton Lang's open window? Your face was so hysterical! I am laughing just remembering it.
viarostultegaI don't mind sending it to you, but it's nothing fancy.
