I am toying with the idea of driving down for lectures in February. If I do, it will be just me and the Joe-Joe.
I am hoping to find three other local women who would like to drive down with me -- for company and to share expenses.
Let me know here or via email. |

Is it the new year that brings lots of thoughts of life and meaning and purpose? I suppose it is.
Typically, I have my "renewal" time in the spring when God's resting earth starts to come back to life. With each fuzzy green leaf that pops out I feel myself waking up and coming back to life, so to speak.
But it is hard to resist the urge to start something fresh -- like a calendar year.
My actual calendar is nearly pristine right now. Last year's calendar is pretty tattered and scribbled on. How refreshing to have a new one with still-crisp pages and white spaces.
Aw. Beginnings. Potential. Renewal.
Tomorrow the boys and I are back to school. I love that! We all need routine and it will be good to hit a groove again.
The tired ol' tree is down and everything is back in place.
2009 --- bring it on! |

...and you are coming to my house...
...if you see a BUNCH of facial skin all over the street out front...
...it's Joey's...
...and he'd like it back.

These are very poor quality. I don't have digital versions of these pictures because I took them with a film camera. I have a scanner here at home but it isn't working with my laptop.
So...I took my digital camera just now and went through some of Joey's photos and took pictures of the pictures. Not a great result but enough to give you an idea.
This is the first photo of Joey's life. Joey was born on a Friday afternoon but he wasn't supposed to be born until the following Monday morning. Jerry had left the hospital to tend to the other two kids and our dog. We had not expected that I would be admitted and kept through the weekend. Anyway...Jerry wasn't there when they whisked me into surgery. I called him and told him what was going on but he was at least a 45 minute drive away.
This is Joey just as they were wheeling him out of the OR. Jerry was running down the hall toward the OR and the nurses stopped him and introduced him to tiny Joey right outside the door.
The scale of Jerry's hand next to Joey's entire body gives you a little bit of an idea of how tiny he was.
Joey spent two weeks in the NICU and the nurses there wouldn't bathe him. Yuck. They didn't want him to get chilled at that weight. So this is one of Joey's very first baths...in a bathroom sink, with room to spare.
Joey's pointy little tush after a bath!

As you can see, I had to give up the naked version of this tradition!
I have a photo from every year but I can't get to the other years easily right now. This at least gives you an idea.

It was wonderful to see my friend, Aleta!
A huge and gorgeous poinsettia that someone gave us.
Joey was born at 2 lbs, 13 oz. And when his first holiday season came, he was still pretty tiny. This is the stocking that I set Joey down inside of and took his picture. It was precious! Ever since then, I take his picture with this same stocking so we can look back year to year and see how he's changed.
My favorite man!!
