Back to the routine! 01-05-09 09:30am EST
Yes, we are back! School is getting done.

But wait, a friend has a pretty sick baby and needs me to watch her other child while she takes the baby to the Doc. We can handle that, some moms homeschool 10 kids at once, no problem!

Check.

Then, the birth center receptionist calls and says, "Your coming in today right?"

I panic, gulp, "No..."

"There's the baby shower for so and so"

"Oh yes, I'm not going to be able to make it, we are starting double lessons today on our homeschooling to get back on pace. I'd really love to come, but just can't take the morning off, so sorry"

"Oh please, only two people are showing up.....etc."

"I'm sorry, I just can't take off on the first day of school and I'm already committed to watching a friend's toddler, etc. etc. etc."

So, how is your morning going?

We are starting school!

(Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the lady they are having the little shower for, but it was just thrown together at the last minute during a mommy support group, it is her fourth baby, and she is a homeschool mommy... I'm SURE she will understand :)

You just can't DO EVERYTHING :)

So settle down telephone, and housework go to sleep
'Cause I'm schooling my babies, and babies don't keep :)
jerzgirlSounds like a home-school-family's typical week! Enjoy your day.
bbeasleyGood for you. You can't say yes all the time. I hope you all have a good day!
ccmomWe're getting back into school today also. I Love the last 2 lines!
nzmomGood for you for sticking to your schedule with the lessons - it is so easy to get distracted on the first day(s) back and think "one more easy day won't hurt."
aletaThou settest a superb example. :)
fourkingsNo is a good word to have at your disposal! :o) Go homeschool those babies!! Mine are back and they will have stories to tell me when I pick them up!!! lol
lonetteWe're getting back to our schoolwork today, too, and so far the kids are doing great! They've both flown through most of their work already, which is good because we have Cub Scouts & Keepers at Home meetings to attend this afternoon and errands to run.
mrs_rosshead'No' shouldn't be associated with guilt! Good job! :)
ilovepondsGood for you to say "no" and stick with your plan!
tanjaIt's two ways. People who know we home school expect us to have school everyday and make sure our children get their studies done. At the same time those same people will ask us to do things knowing that we home school and will have to stop our school day. I don't know how they think we can spend our day both doing school and being away from home. I'm glad we can be flexible, we just have to be careful not to be too flexible. :)
joes_wifeSo true!
nzmomDISBoards are for both planning and for fun - everything related to Disney travel. I usually hang out there for cruise planning / travel, but we're going to Disneyland for N's 13th birthday in the summer and I don't know much about DL so I'm going to be reading the Disneyland forums there.
fussball11Thanks Juline. It means a lot to me
matermagistraWe started school back today here, too. I was glad to get back to a normal routine and, nutball that I am, I love homeschooling and have missed it while on break. :)
nzmomThx for all the DL tips - keep them coming! We're going in June. I need info on all things about DL - from what their ticketing options are to what not to miss that is different between DL and WDW (like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!). We were at DL last in 1999 and the boys don't remember much about it at all. DCA wasn't open yet, either. We're staying at the DL Hotel (exchanged our DVC points for the week there).
nzmomI don't remember much about DL at all - the boys were 2 and 3 when we were there last and I know a lot has changed - plus we had those pesky height restrictions (LOL). We want to see some of Hollywood while we're out there, too.
marksdenaHey, you did the right thing. You have to say NO to some good things sometimes! I was in Temple Terrace for an hour yesterday!

Happy 2009! 01-01-09 01:42am EST
Remember when we were all so excited about the big 2000? It seems old hat now, but I'm still amazed sometimes that I'm living in the 21st century. Amazing.

Hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow! I love January 1st :) Bowl games, the ROSE Parade (I went once as a child), left over snack foods, MORE time with our girls. I just can't seem to get enough lately!

Love you all!
brianneI always LOVE watching the Rose Parade!! I used to live in Cali but never got to go...*someday though*...
tucksmomHappy to you too!
crab_rapperI miss the Rose Parade ... it's OK on TV ... better in person.
melissalThere's a parade in your honor? ;) I like Jan. 1st for the black eyed peas.
sunnyleeI love the ROSE day parade too!!! I'm sure you all love it too! ;-) My Mom went a lot when she was growing up and loved it!
mrs_rossheadI missed the parade today! :( We had company for breakfast and forgot about it!
Enjoy your day and the New Year!
floridacutie2891Happy New Year!

Outing. 12-31-08 09:28am EST
Yesterday the girls and I went shopping but first we met Joe for a "lunch in the park" date :) The weather is beautiful here. I'm really appreciating it after our trip out to Idaho.

After lunch the girls requested to go to....

Goodwill.

How can you refuse daughters who know that we just can't afford to go to the more expensive stores or to buy anything that is not on sale, for that matter?

So here is what we accomplished for $78 dollars:

6 skirts (3 for Hailey, 2 for Emma and 1 for Sadie)
2 dresses for Hailey
3 shirts for Hailey
1 purse for Sadie
2 pairs of shoes for Mom (one is Liz Claiborne loafers that are SO cute and maybe not even worn!)
2 belts for Hailey
(Maybe something else I'm forgetting...)

After that we went to Starbucks to celebrate our great finds and then we were off to Target for some shirts to match the skirts!

For girls that don't like to shop, I think we did okay!
textiletI love thrifting. Yesterday we got a set of double 15 dominos for 2.99. Most of them were still in their plastic wrappers.
jerzgirlWoo Hoo!! Congrats on great bargains!
sunnyleeoh!!! My Mom LOVESSSSSSS the Goodwill..I can't say I always have but I have really come to appreciate it as I have begun to decorate my own home..and realize just how precious hard worked money is and how fast it goes! Great job!
green_gourmetYou are teaching them right!!!
backtoblackYesterday I was forced to go to Dillards to spend a gift card. I found a blouse I really liked, it was $95.00. I think this bad economy is God's way of teaching ME personally a lesson. A year ago I would have bought that blouse, worn it twice and tossed it to the blackest recesses of my closet. I am proud to say I walked away from the evil blouse and am better for it. What does ANYONE need with a $95.00 blouse? I HATE shopping too, but when I give in and go, I naturally gravitate to the most expensive items in the entire store. You sound like you did Ok a the Goodwill. I went once and found nothing except an antique (looking) dish I liked and purchased for 2.50. Perhaps I should go with you sometime, maybe I would have better luck!
derbydiSounds fun!
melissalThe "kids" and I went on an outing yesterday. Started with browsing in Dunedin and picnic at Honeymoon, but ended with lots of stops at thrift stores. We bought a couple of things, but mostly just enjoyed doing things we hadn't planned on. It was fun!
rainoutawesome!
amygWe hit the Goodwill store this week too. Got 3 skirts, 3 tops, and 1 pair of pants for Sarah. Grand total: $18.00!
didowDoesn't Starbucks undo all the good you did at Goodwill? I need to go to our Goodwill. I never think about it. I just do without.

Found! In a trunk of "stuff" in Emma's room. 12-29-08 05:25pm EST
Of course "nobody" knows how it got there.

Isn't that always the way?

Good side? Their rooms and the school shelves are MUCH tidier than they were when we got up this morning.

:)

Too blessed to be stressed? 12-29-08 01:40pm EST
(That is my motto for the day.)

I woke up and saw my sweet husband off to work.

I had a little breakfast and coffee/computer time.

I woke my children and then they ate breakfast and dressed while I read for a few minutes.

I then called them into the living room for school (only doing two days this week and then off again to have time with Daddy)

They quickly put their hands on their notebooks, I found our reading book (Greek Myths and Legends) and began to look around for my teacher's manual.

That was 4 hours ago and I STILL don't know where my teaching manual is........

I am about to go crazy!

But....

We are healthy, we are safe, we have food and shelter....

So...

I'm not going to have a crazy mommy meltdown...

I'm just going to take another deep breath and keep on cleaning/searching/organizing...
fourkingsI like the Motto! Very Good!! Yeah, I know what you mean, the kids and I are home and Dan has to go back to work this afternoon! We have been REALLYYYY COLD Brrrrrr here. We have had HARD freeze warnings since Christmas. With the heater OFF, the house temp actually fell to 68 degrees, our bedroom fell to 58!!! We had to bring out our little heater for the bedroom, yes, it faces NORTH! LOL Enjoy your day!
jerzgirl...it's gotta' be around here somewhere...
mrs_rossheadLove your motto. :) You know, logically, it's around somewhere!!! Doesn't that drive you crazy!
rainoutdon't you hate it when that happens!!?? it's probably in plain sight! :)
ilovepondsDo you think the girls made a heist to keep from having to work???
pdawgNice motto! I think that should catch on nicely!
textiletCheck under the beds! :)
derbydiYou'll find it when/where you least expect it!
melissalWhen I spend a lot of time looking for something, I always find other things that I didn't even realize were lost!
didowYou're doing school this week? No wonder you're going crazy.
ilovepondsAha, I was right!!!!
jenkegleyYay! Glad you found it!
kaceyatthebatAh the crazy mommy meltdown. I know it well.
textileta ha!
mullenpatchThank you for the wishes, we miss you.
tanjaMommy meltdowns must be common. I'm so glad we homeschool. That way we can take a day or two off if needed. Sometimes our children have meltdowns too, again a time for a break. It's nice to be able to take breaks as needed and not on someone else's schedule.
