Homebirth itself is legal in all 50 states. Georgia is more on the "alegal" side of things because there is not a specific law *against* it; there is just no licensing available in this state for direct entry midwives at this time. We ARE currently working on legislation, though. It's been a LONG process, with study committee hearings at the Capitol in December of '06, and most recently some "task force" meetings with the dept. of health. It's interesting, that's for sure. We got home safe & sound yesterday & went to Bible study. We've begun a study on Proverbs- always helpful! We did not know if our baby would be a boy or a girl. If the baby had been a boy, his name would have been Ryan. Because the hospital posts online announcements, we soon found out that at that same hospital on that same day there were not one but TWO boys named Ryan!! Megan could have made it 3!!! By the way, one of the two Ryans is in Megan's kindergarten class.
