I used my pleonast blogs to go over what happened in my family this year. It was fun to go thru and remember just what we did.

Here are the highlights!

... Went to Florida with Tim to see an old friend.
... Went to a Taiko (Japanese drums) concert.
... Celebrated Leap Year with a cake.
... Danny went to Malaysia while we went to Six Flags.
... Went to see the movie Expelled.
... Complained about the Summer reading books. We managed.
... North Georgia Camp.
... Trip to Virginia--DC, Shanendoah Mts., Luray Caverns, DC,
Friends.
... New Jersey Camp for the boys, Gettysburg for Danny and me.
... Stone Mountain Laser Show 3 times with different friends.
... Young Mens' Leadership Camp for the boys, visit with friends.
... Tim reenters Public school. Both boys in High school!
... Bible studies with Senior boy teaching my guys how to teach
... Driver's Ed.
... Election angst.
... The boys participating in worship services.

There were also birthdays to be celebrated and sicknesses to be overcome. With God's help we made it through another year.

What will happen in 2009? We've made some plans, but only God knows for sure!

Happy New Year!!
laughing_eyesHappy New Year to you too - here's to travels to exotic locales
didowIt seems like a whole lot when you look at it all at once, doesn't it? I finally saw Expelled a couple of weeks ago. Timothy got me one of the retractable back scratchers like he used in the movie for Christmas.
tucksmomHappy to you too!
snickers63Happy new year back at you!

Shhh! Don't tell it, but it's my Mom's birthday! 12-26-08 11:17am EST
Yes, we are still celebrating birthdays this week. Today is my mom's birthday. I am so thankful that she is here and that all of her children will be here tonight to celebrate with her. It's becoming harder for all of us to get together now that grandchildren are starting up families of their own. We'll be missing two of the grandchildren and their spouses who are unable to come. We always feel that it is a special time when all five of the children make it at the same time.

This week, we've celebrated an anniversary and three birthdays. After tomorrow we can relax and wait for the new year!

I am enjoying having the boys home! Two weeks is not enough!
turner120995Since your mom doesn't have her own blog, (and why not??!!) you can show her some birthday wishes below. I will start...

Caneta, Happy Birthday from Tim Turner
snickers63Happy birthday!!! And I know it will be if all FIVE are together!!!
jlmanagerSorry about that. We're planning to make it next year!
didowNow that mine are starting to leave the nest, I know how precious time with everyone together is. I'm glad y'all are getting together for your mom. tell her Happy Birthday from the Dows.
tucksmomOh! Happy Birthday to her!
laughing_eyesHappiest of Birthdays!
larry_shannonYeah, I guess it is a "Tennessee thang."
julied93Happy Birthday to your mom & I'm SOOO glad to hear you say 2 weeks isn't enough. It always kinda makes me sad to hear people say they can't wait until their kids go back to school. Time flies by so quickly I don't wish it away!
bzyabsmaI love it when we are all home, too.

Time for an update. 12-15-08 09:25am EST
Just to get rid of the old one. We are heading into our last week of school for the year. This time of year is so hectic. Yesterday, we decided that Tuesday should be a half day at school so that students could study for the Wednesday finals. The rest of the finals have that opportunity so why not the day before? We sure would be happy. Maybe I should start a petition.

The boys have something going every night thru the weekend. There is a weekend Bible study this weekend followed by the monthly teen devotional after services Sunday. There is a lock-in planned for the teenagers for New Years Eve. I need to get them signed up. They'll enjoy seeing their friends from FC camp. It starts at 10 PM!

We still aren't sure what we are going to do in the two weeks we have off. Surely there will be some down time.

Have a great week everybody!! :)
turner120995Schools are 2 hours late this morning, which means no kindergarten for Megan. With cold temps forecast for all week and some kind of precipitation on Wednesday, all school kids around here are hoping for an early exit for the holiday break.
textiletwe're in the captivity of activity!
textiletDid Tim like his razorback thing?
textiletNo, i mean the thing i gave him.
laughing_eyessadly, I don't think a buckeye could make it to Cairo - maybe, just maybe to NYC - but not Cairo
laughing_eyesI'm thinking that this trip is more leisurely than Israel/Jordan ;)
laughing_eyesexcept of course Valley of the Kings in 1 morning - THAT is nuts!

Mary kept these things in her heart. 12-07-08 09:26pm EST
As a mother, I've always liked that sentiment. Before children, I don't think I totally appreciated that verse, but now there are serveral times in my life where I sit back and watch my children. Today was such a day for me.

Today, my sons took part in the passing out of the communion at services. This is a first time for both to participate in the worship service. As I have thought about this, there have been so many things for which I am thankful. I am thankful that they have chosen to become christians. I am thankful that not only are the able, but they are also willing and desiring to take part in the worship service. I'm thinkful for all the Christian influences they have had among this family at Embry Hills. I am thankful for all the encouraging words I got from different people afterwards, and I know they spoke encouraging words to my sons.

There were some things missing. Their dad was out of town worshipping in Washington. I wish he could have been here. I also thought about an elder that has served for 25 years that wasn't able to come. He is in the hospital suffering from pneumonia and cancer. The boys have been in his home numerous times.

But their granddaddy was here. I was so glad. It filled my heart to know that my dad was able to see his grandsons willing to start their service in a public way. It made me think of a song that we have started singing at Embry Hills.

The Army of Our Lord (I can't determine who the author is)

O men of age, O men of youth,
Lift up your idle swords;
Come fight with us who fight for truth:
The Army of our Lord.

Our Lord sees every Christian die,
And feels each dying breath,
And calls out from a field nearby.
"Be faithful unto death."

Our elders, long in battle years,
Alas, begin to fade;
But from the ranks, young men appear
And lead their first crusade.

Our brethren, dead beneath the plain,
Whose spirits never died,
Rise up to march and shout again,
"O Christ, be glorified!"

"O Christ, be glorified!"

And the best thought of all is that this is all possible because of our Lord. To God be the glory!

didowAs our kids grow up we're always proud of each new step they take. This one ranks very high on the list of proudest moments. I know how you feel. Isn't wonderful being a mom?
theauntSince they cleaned up nicely, I took a picture of them with their granddaddy today! :)

Photobucket
aletaOh, so sweet an image! We don't sing that song, but I like the words!
jerzgirlPraise God for these young men!
turner120995We had such a nice visit with their daddy this weekend. He got to be a good influence for my children. And so it goes...
tucksmom:)
julied93Oh I love the picture, Sara!
harbermamaMy husband led that song this morning. I love vs. 3, and it was especially poignant to me today as we had a 22-year-old visiting with us this weekend who has taken on a LOT of responsibility in the Lord's kingdom in another state. I had been hearing all he was doing with his life and as I sang that verse, I was thinking of him sitting next to me. Good job, Mom, with your boys!
snickers63Happy day. Sweet pic.
kasa_momWonderful pic! You can tell that granddad is very happy to be standing between two fine young men.
jlmanager:)
rosiePriceless.
rainoutthis brought tears to my eyes...how sweet.
textiletI wish I would have been there to see, myself!
the_girl_next_doorHow heart-warming and encouraging! I noticed your boys Sunday; there was one on each end of the communion table! :)
textiletSara, we recently had the same type of issues with our computer. We took it to a place on Jimmy Carter and they cleaned it and they were able to save all our stuff (prices are good). They installed the free virus protection software. We've had no problems since.
laughing_eyeswonderful! (hugs all around)
textiletComing from my house, it is on the right hand side of the road, passed Buford Hwy. The brick building is set down off the road. Michael might know the name, I just know where it is.
bzyabsmaThat is a great picture, and it is a wonderful thing to see a son participate in the worship services, especially for the first time - they suddenly seem/look so much more mature.
themotherLove the picture. Tim has almost the same identical expression as Dad!
didowJames will be here on Sunday. He wanted to visit friends in Houston while he was there.
themotherGot the book -- it was new so I couldn't use my credit. They said it was their last copy! They were also excited -- and somewhat incredulous -- when I told them it might be required reading soon!
larry_shannonI thought about you when both of the boys were serving and I understand your sentiments. Larry is the brain in our family and came up with date nights long ago when they were young and we still lived in Duluth. We take turns taking each of them on special dates and it's something I look forward to so very much.
textiletYou looked so cute this morning.

Computer viruses! 12-06-08 10:23pm EST
I may disappear off the computer soon. A virus has slowly been reeking havoc on my computer. We've tried fighting, but apparently this one is going to win the battle. We have two "virus protection" programs which right now do not make me very happy. This virus is now halting our chances of upgrading the protection when there are new updates, and it constantly turns off the shields that are in place. One program will not even allow me to turn the shields back on even on a temporary basis.

Today I have tried to go to the websites of these programs, and it won't allow me to go that route. I'm afraid to buy another upgrade online because it may stop it. Google searches send you somewhere else.

Tonight, it won't allow me on to my AOL account. At first I thought it was AOL, but when I tried my husbands name and password, it let me through. I may should not have done it, because he normally doesn't use this computer, so now IT has his password or will soon....I guess.

So, I don't know what to do. I'm trying one last time to do a virus sweep. It's currently showing two viruses, but the last time I tried this, the scan locked up before it completed the total scan and then left me no option to quarantine the ones it had found in the first few seconds of scanning.

Rant, rant, rant! Thanks for listening.

-------

Update: Well, I decided to download a whole new virus protection program and run it. It found 14 spyware/viruses, 4 of which were high risk. I've deleted them. Now to see if the computer acts any better! Hey, it's a 30 day money back product.
snickers63Not sounding too good for you there. Hope you can fix it!
tennesseemomI think we have the same thing, I'm on my daughters lap top right now. My brother in law who is a computer programmer can't fix it. He said whatever it was wouldn't let him run the program that he needed to fix it. He said we have two opinion, one being to reinstall windows etc or to install a second hard drive and transport all our programs etc to the new drive. We will probably have to do opinion two since we can't even log on anymore without it freezing up. He is going to make an administrator account and log every other user out of installing programs, he said it came from the internet and usually it something that we accidently installed in the form of a pop up.
tennesseemomdoes the name Zango sound familiar? My brother in law won't be in town again until the week end before Christmas
didowI'm impressed that you could even hold a conversation about the subject, much less fix the problem. I hope it works.
laughing_eyesPlease don't go away into the black hole of virusing
